FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I get the registration number on my vehicle?
In many cases, if you already have a taxed vehicle,
and have a V5c registration document issued in your own name, we
should be able to use DVLA’s online facility to assign the registration number
to your vehicle almost instantly. We just require you to email some details
from the V5c. (The DVLA online service is available 7am to 7pm Daily)
When the online transfer is complete, DVLA issue a
confirmation email together with a certificate authorising you to have plates
made locally.
At that stage you can display the new reg (Don’t
forget to tell your Insurance Company when switching plates) and DVLA will send
a V5c for the new registration number direct to you within 5 working days.
The online transfer service works in the majority
of cases but occasionally, for example if the vehicle has a broken taxation
history, the automated system will request a postal transfer application.
If you have recently purchased
the vehicle, unfortunately we need to wait for you to receive a V5c issued in
your own name before we can progress the transfer.
What if I don’t yet have a vehicle to transfer the
reg to?
On receipt of cleared funds, we will send you the Retention
Certificate by First Class Recorded Delivery.
When you are ready to transfer, it is simply a
matter of sending the Retention Certificate with your V5c registration document
to Swansea DVLA (We can do this for you by post if you prefer).
